Big Ten Basketball Tournament 2023

Big Ten Basketball Tournament 2023

Big Ten Basketball Tournament 2023. The Big Ten Basketball Tournament is managed to hold at the conclusion of the men’s college basketball season opener each year. Since 1998, the tournament has been held each year. The tournament winner is crowned Big Ten Tournament Champion and obtains the conference’s athletic scholarship to the NCAA tournament.

The Big Ten Conference was the very last NCAA Division I college basketball meeting to launch a tournament. The tournament finals are usually held instantly before the NCAA Tournament field is announced, but in 2018, they were held a week prior to Selection Sunday.

The tournament winner has advanced to the NCAA Tournament Final Four on seven occasions. Michigan State went on to win the NCAA tournament in 2000. The tournament has been won by the No. 1 seed 9 times, the most of any seed. Michigan, as a No. 8 seed, was the weakest team to win the tournament in 2017. Ohio State (2010, 2011),  Michigan State (1999, 2000), as well as Michigan are the only schools to have won 2 consecutive championships (2017, 2018).

To be honest, I was surprised when Minneapolis has given the name of the host city for the 2024 men’s tournament. The event’s relocation to the East Coast from 2017 to 2018 sparked outrage among fans because the cities were not more regionally located in the Big Ten’s geographical footprint.

Minneapolis is located on the northwest edge of the league’s footprint and is inconvenient for at least half of the Big Ten. Whilst Minneapolis airport serves as a major hub for Delta Airlines, fans may face higher airline tickets to the city as a result.
